La Lesetsa Fundraiser -The Heirloom Project.

Help fund the foundations of a legacy minded Fashion House.

It has been a major struggle over the past year for La Lesetsa to find clients. So as the founder of my business I knew I needed to take La Lesetsa to my target market. They need to see La Lesetsa where they eat, play and shop. As a start-up, we need to be in a place that is low commitment so we can take it month by month. Then I thought, hey what about a high-end flea market? I’ve definitely seen my clientele at Irene Village Market, “Kamers” or the Fields Market. So that’s our next goal, can you help us reach it?

La Lesetsa’s Values.

How designer pieces are made and who made them, is what is most important at La Lesetsa. We no longer live in a world where not being responsible is acceptable, we need to keep in mind how fashion affects people and the environment. At La Lesetsa, I will achieve this by mindfully sourcing materials, creating a work environment where women will enjoy working and while paid a living wage. By designing our goods with artisanal craftmanship, while keeping the lifecycle of this designer garment in mind we can create fashion that can be passed onto the next generation as heirlooms. In the 21st century, we should be focusing on doing good that will outlive us, not fashion and systems that will poison the next generation.

What we need!!

When you sell at a high-end flea market it is all about presentation!! It is also a touchpoint for meeting with future customers. This means telling your story well and leaving them with enough information to stay in contact. So setting up a beautiful store with proper branding is important. Then we need samples of La Lesetsa products. Thankfully, our resourceful upcycled materials don’t cost so much but the natural fabrics and haberdashery items are more expensive, which averages out our material costs. Another big purchase we desperately need is cotton tape labels. For a start-up, cotton labels are a big expense, and only sold in bulk.

How will we raise the money?

By selling of course! La Lesetsa is a business after all, but I am going to do it in a way that gets you involved and on the mission with me! The magic ingredient – ThundaFund.

Thunda Fund is a proudly South African platform that allows SME’s, Businesses, NGO’s, change-makers and creatives to raise capital with a specific purpose or project in mind. A specific capital goal is set out called a “Tipping Point”. This needs to be raised in order for the fundraiser to be a success and be paid out. So YOU as a collective; a community of investors, decide if my “Heirloom Project” is worth it or not.

The Heirloom Project falls through if the Tipping Point is not reached. I then don’t get a cent and you keep your pledge. So how do you say “Yes, I want to support La Lesetsa’s Heirloom Project!” You make a pledge equivalent to one of La Lesetsa’s rewards. A reward is a physical product or a sentimental reward. Check out La Lesetsa’s rewards BELOW. You get that very special reward or purchase you have chosen when the Tipping Point is reached. If the money raised goes beyond the Tipping Point and reaches the “Dream Goal” then you have supported a worthy cause, and La Lesetsa will have achieved enough to fund the full project.

What we will get out of it?

With the money raised through the Thunda Fund, 66% of the proceeds will go towards us meeting our goal. Our goal is to have enough to buy equipment for our flea-market stall and materials to create our sample range. With each pledge made, a 2-hour embroidery or handwork lesson will be sponsored. Read more about this training below.

What will YOU get out of it!?

These are the rewards that will go to our supporters, equivalent to the amount you pledge:

How this will GIVE BACK to our community around us.

La Lesetsa is starting an empowerment program for women. Women who are already working part-time elsewhere will be invited into the program. For example domestic workers or caregivers. Women who, if given some extra employment, will be able to live a better quality of life. In my current capacity, La Lesetsa can only employ on a part-time basis. The employment will be seasonal depending on the success of the business. There is a lot of uncertainty, but I have to start somewhere.

Our Strategy and the potential risks.

The vintage lace and scraps that are used to decorate many of the rewards are already available. The cotton used in the majority of the rewards is freely available. Physical rewards are only available to sponsors within South Africa. Pudo or the Courier Guy is the courier we will use. The Heirloom Project Thunda Fund will run for 30 days. Production of rewards will commence towards the end of October. The rewards will later be delivered at the beginning of November.
